Q&A With Ylorie
Fun Facts
Q: How do you pronounce your name? Does your name have significance?
A. My name is pronounced just like it looks why-lor-ee (long Y, longme). My mother is eccentric so she made the name up.
Q: You eat pizza, but hate cheese?
A: Pizza is one of my favorite dishes, but yes other than on pizza you’ll never hear me ask for or allow cheese anywhere on my plate.
Q: What's something you do now from your childhood?
A: The food on my plate cannot touch, never has, probably never will. I eat one thing at a time. I don’t like the flavors to intermix in my mouth.
Q: Did you grow up wanting to work with women of color?
A: No, actually I majored in math in college to become an actuary or possibly a professor. Although, I know I won’t work in insurance (hubby does that), I do believe my role has allowed for training and in the future I won’t rule out adjunct educational opportunities. I enjoy coaching and teaching others the tools for success.
Q: What's your favorite cuisine(s)?
A: I love Caribbean and Latin food.
Q: Best gift to receive (or give)?
A: Recently, a mentor gifted me a gift card to a small, Black owned business. I’ve always sent gift cards, but now I’m more focused on building small businesses. That’s my gift of choice – a gift card to a small business.
Q: Most challenging thing about being a wife, mom, career woman, sister, daughter, sorority sister, and friend?
A: There’s only one of me! I learned a long time ago to schedule time for myself. I cannot pour from an empty cup.
